A Love Letter To Barcelona.

There’s an energy to the City of Barcelona that becomes infectious.

Hi. I am Sandra Tacko, I am crazy amazing, I believe in grey areas and the universe and welcome to my blog!❤

Dear Barcelona,

Mint with undertones of rum.

I’ve always pictured you smelling like youth and promise, with hints of marijuana and rum.

I am not much of a believer, but, let me start by telling you about Simeon.

Simeon: the man in the temple.

The Bible describes him as “righteous and devout”. And, like most people in the Bible, he spent his life anticipating Christ’s arrival.

When Mary and Joseph, the parents of Jesus, Jesus Christ, brought the infant Jesus to the temple, Simeon saw Jesus and recognized him as the Messiah. The one he had spent all of his life anticipating.

So Simeon picked up the baby in his arms, and to paraphrase, he told the Lord that now that he has seen the Messiah, the salvation that had been promised, the Lord would let him depart in peace.

And Barcelona, to me, you are what Christ was to Simeon.

A notebook on one hand, a shot of rum on the other as I chase the sunset, with you.

That, dare I say, is my Simeon moment!

I often think about touring the massive ‘La Sagrada Familia’. The quirky genius, Antoni Gaudi, who dedicated the last twelve years of his life to prayer, fasting and to constructing it, crossing my mind each time. He called it, A Cathedral for the poor.

I think about tasting your local food. Mostly because you have been listed, in many articles, and by many foodies, as one of the cities to visit, if not for anything else, for your really really delicious food.

I also think about your beach parties, a lot. Your all-night beach parties!

Your vibrant music!

Your festival scenes!

I, sometimes, even picture myself in one of your bars, one that’s facing the sea, chugging glass after glass of sangria, with my eyes closed as I enjoy the waves lapping at the shore, clearing my thoughts.

Barcelona, you taught me to laugh again. You taught me not to take myself so seriously. You taught me to live in the moment.

You reminded me what it feels like to be utterly drunk in lust.

Thank you for reviving me. Thank you for showing me that life goes on. Thank you for making me fall in love with the world again.

Thanks to you I feel like myself once more.

But, as much as I want to come to you, be numbed by drinks as I wander the Gothic quarter, chasing a story, or two, you and I, ours will always be a fling.

A summer romance.

Quick, but intense. Very very intense.

One that will always leave us daydreaming about each other when we go back to our mundane lives.

You know, those are my favorite kind of love stories!

I love you,

Sandra Tacko.
